Regular trash & yard trimmings Mondays
Recycling Every other Monday (A)
Heavy trash: 1st Wednesday of the month
Tree debris only: Odd months
Junk waste & tree waste: Even months
REGULAR HOUSEHOLD WASTE
Residential waste should be placed in a City of Houston-provided garbage container designed for automated pick up. Contact the City’s 311 Helpline for garbage & recycling bins.
“Tags for (extra) Bags” are available for items that do not fit in the approved containers for $2.00 each at participating Kroger stores, or through the 311 Helpline, or online at www.houstontx.gov/solidwaste. Yard trimmings must be contained in city-approved, biodegradable bags or bundled in 4-ft lengths and placed at the curb on collection day. Bags of yard trimming and leaves may contain only compostable plant material.
Recyclables are collected at the curb every other Monday using the city’s single-stream rolling bins. Residents may place newspapers, magazines, glass, aluminum and tin cans, advertising mail, flattened corrugated cardboard (and boxes), and plastic bottles (#1-5, and 7) in the green recycling bins provided by the City. No sorting is required. [Note: Boxes larger than 3’x3’ should be left for Heavy Trash collection crews in even months.]
Visit www.houstontx.gov/solidwaste/Recycle_Cal.pdf for the recycling schedule and drop off locations. Call 311 to request a bin or to report missed collection.
HEAVY TRASH COLLECTION
Heavy trash items are collected on the 1st Wednesday of each month at the curb. Please visit the city’s website for specifications. Tree debris only is collected in odd months. Junk waste & tree waste are both collected in even months.
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS DISPOSAL
Contact the City of Houston Environmental Service Center at 713.551.7355 to dispose of hazardous items. The Center is located at 11500 South Post Oak south of Loop 610 and is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the 2nd Saturday of each month.
Place city issued trash containers, yard waste bags and recycling bins on the curb no earlier than 6 p.m. of the evening preceding pick-up and remove empty containers no later than 10 p.m. on collection day. Containers left on the street beyond these times are subject to city fines. Face bin toward the street, handle on the curb side, and leave at least 3 feet of clearance on either side of the bin.
